Other than that, the romance between Grey and Lia Mara feels…shallow-lacking in depth in some ways I’m unsure of how to explain properly. It makes sense why Rhen became who he is in this second book. Plus, Rhen isn’t like Grey and was not trained like Grey was as well. There’s only so much a person can withstand before they break. Though, I don’t like what he has done, I understand why he became the way he did. The whole Rhen and Grey thing was expanded and worked on well too. Moreover, the storytelling is solid (as always) and the character development (especially Grey’s) is brilliant. A Heart So Fierce and Broken focuses primarily on events after the first book but in the points of view of Grey and Lia Mara (the enemy’s daughter).įortunately, I find Lia Mara more likable and less frustrating, so the reading experience was more enjoyable. Well, if you thought the same as I did, I can tell you now that I’m done, that we will only come across Harper and Rhen for less than 20% of the book. So, I was rather reluctant to start this second book in the series because I’m not a fan of Harper and thought that we’d be getting more of it in the points of view of Harper, Rhen and Grey. The first book wasn’t amazing for me because I found the pacing of the plot not in sync with the pacing of the romance ( full review here).
